Ely School District Adopts Four-Day Week to Address Budget Constraints

The Ely School Board has unanimously approved a transition to a four-day school week, set to commence this fall. This decision aims to address the district’s financial challenges while maintaining educational standards.

In a meeting held on April 13, 2026, the board voted 6-0 in favor of the change. The move aligns Ely with other Northern Minnesota districts exploring alternative schedules to manage budget constraints.

Under the new schedule, students will attend classes from Monday through Thursday, with extended daily hours to meet state educational requirements. Fridays will be reserved for teacher planning, professional development, and optional student enrichment activities.

Superintendent John Doe stated, “This decision was made after careful consideration of our financial situation and the potential benefits for both students and staff. We believe this schedule will help us maintain quality education while addressing our budgetary needs.”

Parents and community members are encouraged to attend upcoming informational sessions to learn more about the implementation and to address any concerns.
