The Ely City Council is progressing with plans to demolish the Community Center, a decision that has been under consideration for some time. During the January 21, 2025, council meeting, the Projects Committee recommended advertising the demolition work for bids, with the bid opening scheduled for February 18. The project is funded by the owner and the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB).
The Community Center has been a focal point in Ely for many years, serving as a venue for various events and gatherings. However, due to structural concerns and the cost of necessary repairs, the decision to demolish the building was made to ensure public safety and pave the way for future developments that better serve the community’s needs.
Residents interested in the project’s progress or those with questions are encouraged to attend upcoming council meetings or contact city officials for more information.
